Safety and Sustainability

Kalo Gold measures how it operates, not only what it finds. In September 2026 the Company completed its first independent sustainability assessment with Digbee and was awarded an overall rating of BBB. This page sets out the result, what the assessors recognised, and what we are working on next.

Our approach

Kalo Gold Corp. is committed to responsible exploration, environmental stewardship, and stakeholder trust across its Vatu Aurum project in Fiji.

Kalo operates as a junior explorer. Field campaigns are intermittent in duration but meaningful in impact. Above-ground risks — permitting, landowner alignment, safety, and environmental compliance — are the primary determinants of project success at this stage. They are also the filters applied by sustainability-oriented investors and by acquisition-stage due diligence.

The Company's Safety and Sustainability Programme exists to ensure that Kalo's practices, however lean in execution, are documented and auditable; aligned with Fijian law under the Mining Act Cap. 146 and the Environmental Management Act 2005; comparable to internationally recognised sustainability standards; and structured to support third-party certification and investor-grade due diligence.

Overall

What Digbee assesses

Digbee is an independent sustainability disclosure and scoring platform built for the mining sector. Submissions are scored question by question by accredited sustainability experts — two scorers and a team lead — against standardised criteria on a scale from AAA to D. Each score carries a confidence band showing how far it could move as risks are managed or realised.

What the assessment recognised

  • 01

The highest available rating, AAA, for local representation in the project team and for security and firearms practice.

  • 02

AA for permitting compliance monitoring, the commencement of baseline monitoring, team and equipment security, stakeholder engagement, local language engagement, cultural preservation, stakeholder inclusion in decision making and water discharge.

  • 03

No fatalities, no disabling injuries and no lost time incidents since exploration began in 2010.

  • 04

Over 90% of staff were Fiji nationals through the first eight months of 2026, with the team reaching nearly 100 people.

  • 05

Approximately 70% of project procurement sourced at the local level.

  • 06

Executed access and compensation agreements with every landowning unit on the licence area, and documented contributions to community water supply and road access.

What we are working on

The assessment identified three matters at Board and head office level. We publish them because the result is only credible alongside them.

  1. 1

Setting out sustainability more explicitly in corporate strategy.

  2. 2

Developing integrated risk management at the corporate level.

  3. 3

Putting succession plans in place for the Board and for key management and technical personnel.

Governance

The Safety and Sustainability Committee of the Board was established by unanimous resolution of the Board of Directors on 9 April 2026, at a meeting at which all six directors were present. It comprises Cam Grundstrom, independent director, as Chair; Terry L. Tucker, President and Chief Executive Officer; and Michael Nesbitt, Director and Country Managing Director. Jennifer Sly, Safety and Sustainability Lead, attends.

The Committee operates under a Charter and Terms of Reference and reports to the Board quarterly. Its remit covers health and safety, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, community and landowner engagement, grievance management and sustainability documentation. It maintains the Company's five key performance indicators, which cover lost-time injuries, regulatory compliance, grievance resolution times, the time committed to safety and sustainability work, and independent sustainability assessment.

Day-to-day health, safety, environmental and community activity is recorded in SiteDocs, the Company's digital field system, which holds the daily record from the field and the evidence the assessment was scored against.

The people behind the record

Michael Nesbitt, Director and Country Managing Director, leads in-country management and engagement with landowners and communities. Sala Tueba, Health, Safety and Ecological Lead, completes the daily field safety and environmental record. Jennifer Sly, Safety and Sustainability Lead, consolidates that record into weekly and monthly reporting.
